At Kupuna Life, we value the incredible care and aloha our caregivers provide every day. To ensure we meet state requirements and continue providing safe, high-quality services to our clients, it’s important that all caregivers stay current with their required documents and certifications.
Whether you’re new to caregiving or a seasoned pro, here’s your friendly reminder to check that your documents are complete, up to date, and on file with the office.
Required Documents & Certifications
1. Background Checks & Clearances

- Completed State of Hawaii criminal background check
- Check of adult abuse registry and sex offender registry
- Fingerprinting (if required by role)
Tip: Notify us if you’ve had any changes in your legal status, address, or employment history that may affect your clearance.
2. CPR & First Aid Certification

- Current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification
- First Aid certification
Both must be kept current and active, please let the office know at least 30 days before your renewal date.
3. Health Requirements

- Recent Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
- Vaccination records (COVID-19, flu, or others if required by client assignment or agency policy)
- Any other agency-required health screenings
If you haven’t submitted your TB clearance in the last 12 months, please schedule your screening as soon as possible.
4. Proof of Identity & Eligibility to Work

- Valid government-issued ID (Hawaii State ID, Driver’s License, or Passport)
- Social Security card or other work eligibility documentation

5. Training & Competency

- Completed orientation training
- Proof of competency in caregiving skills (e.g. ADLs, transfers, infection control)
- Specialized training (for dementia care, Hoyer lift use, etc., as needed)
Ask us about upcoming in-service training, we offer several options to meet your yearly continuing education requirements.
6. References & Employment History

- Up-to-date employment record/resume
- At least 2–3 professional references (for new hires)
7. Vehicle Documents (If you drive clients)

- Valid Hawaii Driver’s License
- Proof of car insurance and registration
- Clean driving abstract (if applicable)
